SC2 Season 7 Matchmaking Relaxed

SC2 Ladder

Are you tired of every ladder match being so closely contested that one small mistake can cause you to lose the game? Maybe you are stuck in one of the lower leagues even though you win most of the games you play? With changes to the ladder matchmaking system in SC2 Season 7, Blizzard is trying to address these issues.

Although the current matchmaking system is working as intended, usually putting players against people who are very close to their own skill level, developers would like to relax the settings to include more variety. The change is being implemented as soon as Season 7 starts, but Blizzard is claiming it’s only a test. Developers will be monitoring the new system constantly and the changes could be reverted in the future.

These changes to the matchmaking system will have many implications. Players participating in the ladder could be matched up against those of greater or lesser playing ability than themselves. If your skill is progressing quickly and you’re winning against players in higher leagues then you could be promoted quicker than what is possible with the current system. Also, occasionally you might play against someone who is much lower skill than you and theoretically have an easy win.

Personally I think this is a great change. It will be nice to not have to play your very best every single game in order to get the win. Plus, as much as some of us despise losing — sometimes playing against those much better than you can help you learn and improve your own skills.
